School lost to PGS. Didn't speak as I thought its only fair for my 3 comrades to be allowed to speak since they prepared. Its morally wrong for me to just jump in and demand one of them to step down and let me speak.

In my opinion, there were 2 reasons why we lost.

1. The speeches were good. Too good in fact. The english used was so difficult and of such a high level that the judges were unable to comprehend. The chief judge commented that there was a lack of coherence. However, the problem was as the English used was of such a high level and the judges are mere rotarians, not English professors, they could not detect the flow. They could not go along with the train of thought and catch the gist. For us who helped prepared, obviously we know what they are speaking. However, we have to understand the judges are not English professors. We have to convince them, make them understand. How can they be convinced if they can't understand the English? They faulted it as incoherence, but its merely their inability to understand.

2. The lack of "oomph". To anyone who watch ACS debate or SMI last year, you would have noticed the sheer confidence, the sheer stubborness, the sheer convincing tone they speak/spoke in. Our team, although we have fantastic punchlines or killer lines, they were not carried out with enough oomph or power. We debated with the right tone, but the body language was not right. Its no use putting your arms by your side. The ACS debaters put their body language to good use. Don't distract the judges, but use your fingers/hands to accentuate your point.

Well, but then the PGS people didn't do fantastically well either. The judges were too shallowminded and its just sad to see this happen when the speeches were so well written and delivered.

Its a sad case, but win or lose, we're still a team. Its no one's fault and if I were to say we're not the least bit disappointed, I would be lying. We are in fact, shocked and stunned but its ok, guys. This is not the end of the world. Lets just take it as a lesson. ROCK ON GUYS!!!
