Ok my very lame first attempt at writing a story.

“Come here, come here and sit with me” says a man who was pointing to the seat adjacent to him. He was shouting it out loud to all passerbys, but many seem to just ignore the old man.

Some thought that the old man’s a lunatic while some probably thought that he was out to catch little children and do horrible things to them.

The old man looked everything normal but a little frail and he certainly does not look like the kind of people who kidnaps young children.

A young little girl walked by and heard him shouting. She was a very pretty little girl with long eyelashes and sparkly eyes. She had a cheerful expression and her long flowing hair made her look like an angel from the heavens. Her long hair was further accentuated with a huge yellow bow on it. Her dress was long and she wore a pair of high heels made from glass that reflected the bright sunlight.

She walked towards the old man curiously while passer-bys looked on with disdained faces. She smiled at the old man and sat beside him.

The old man was overjoyed and excited that finally, someone was here to talk to him. The young girl began chattering away talkatively about her latest dolls, toys and about her family while the old man listened, ever so attentively, ever so tirelessly and only giving his opinions when they were asked for. He waited patiently until the little girl finished her tales and allowed him the chance to speak.

To many passer-bys, the old man may look devious and shady with his imposing and tall body, his slitless and bloodshot eyes, his wrinkled face and sinister smile, his yellow and dirty teeth, his shabby clothes and his crooked nose. To the passer bys, he looked everything like an old evil man out to catch little children.

But to the young girl who has been talking so excitedly to him, his imposing and tall but frail body gave her a sense of security, his lined face and bloodshot eyes told her that this man has experienced many things in life, and be it joy, sorrow, excitement or disappointment. His smile was nowhere near sinister and in fact, gave her a warm and cozy feeling. He may wear shabby clothes, but he certainly wasn’t a shady person.

He was humorous, kind and helpful, offering her suggestions on what clothes to dress her doll in, what to do when she’s bored at home and complimenting her on how lovely she is. He was telling her many stories of his life, on how he was once a young boy, how he was once a rich man who had almost everything, how he was so busy with work that he neglected his family, how his sons and wife betrayed him by cheating off his possessions and kicking him out of the house, how he is surviving in the cold weather every night under the bridge, how he has to beg for money for food.

The girl was so overwhelmed by the stories. She was stunned at how hardy that old, frail man was. She felt so sorry when the old man talked about how dreadful his sons were to him. As the old man talked about his life, streaks of tears began to flow down his already lined face and the little girl’s cheerful face. His voice was full of sadness, full of melancholy, full of regret, full of sorrow. His voice slowly became weaker and weaker as the sky darkens.

Suddenly, huge drops of water splattered on their faces. The girl was so mesmerized by the old man’s life that she ignored the water pounding on her. The old man was so filled with sorrow that he too ignored the heavy rain.

There, they sat on the park bench, the old man reflecting on his life and that little girl paying close attention. People were scurrying around them, running to shade while the two ignored the passing world.

As the old man’s voice got weaker and weaker, the girl began to cry more and more . She was no longer her bubbly self when she first sat down with that old man. She felt so sad that she could no longer look at that old man’s lined and tired face. She felt so embarassed at her own life compared to what this man has gone through in his life.. She burrowed her head in her hands on that old man’s lap and made herself oblivious to everything but his slow and weak voice.

Suddenly, the weak voice, full of sorrow, melancholy, regret and disappointment stopped. She felt a ray of light shining on her. She looked up and saw God.

“My little child, do not cry, do not weep. This man has suffered enough and he’ll join me in my kingdom where he’ll never again suffer from the scourge of mankind. He’ll spend his days happily chatting with many others who have suffered the same, if not worse. Let him go, my child.”

“Let him go.”
